Oral Surgery

At Dent4All Dental Care Clinic a number of surgical operations are performed, covering the widest range of intraoral dental surgery. In the surgical department of our clinic we provide interventions concerning:

Surgical extraction of teeth and roots

Surgery extraction of wisdom teeth

Surgical removal of cysts and small benign tumors

Apicoectomies

Excision of frenum (labial or lingual)

Gingivectomies

Periodontal plastic surgery

Surgical extraction of teeth and roots

There are many cases where minor surgery is needed for removing ectopic teeth and roots. This operation should be done with the least possible burden on the patient and the proper management of hard and soft tissues.

Surgical extraction of impacted teeth

Disproportionate bone growth in the jaws, in relation to the dentate, sometimes leads to the retention of the third molars (wisdom teeth) in the wrong position in relation to the remaining teeth. Molars are often trapped and never rise into the oral cavity. However, even in this case, they often cause various problems (pericoronitis, dentoalveolar abscesses, odontogenic cysts, periodontal or periapical problems on neighboring teeth).

The extraction of these teeth is a relatively complex surgical procedure which requires special knowledge, experience, respect of adjacent anatomical structures (vessels, nerves, neighboring teeth) and specialized equipment.

At the Dent4All Dental Care Clinic surgical extraction of impacted teeth is one of the most common surgeries. Furthermore, in conjunction with the orthodontic, we undertake an early prediction of the course of the third molars from the age of 15 to 18 and, where appropriate, we encourage preventive removal, which is less complex and burdensome for the patient.

Another category of teeth which are often trapped are impacted canines. In this case, together with the orthodontist, we, as part of a comprehensive orthodontic treatment, perform surgically their uncovering and movement to the correct position in the mouth. If this is not possible and extraction is unavoidable, it is done safely and without affecting adjacent teeth. If there is a gap in the dentate, the placement of implants is usually proposed, or alternative restoration, depending on the case.

Surgical removal of cysts and small benign tumors

Jaw cysts are another frequent medical condition of the oral region. The cysts are most often odontogenic origin. In every case, apart from their safe surgical removal, it is absolutely necessary to clarify and address the cause that created them (e.g root canal treatment or extraction of the responsible tooth). Equally important, however, is the replacement of the bone defect arising as a result of the condition. This is done with special regenerative techniques that ensure that there will be no risk of aesthetic or functional deformation, thereby enabling successful restoration (classic or prosthetic implant).

It’s also worth noting that the majority of odontogenic periapical lesions or cysts disappear and are fully healed after proper endodontic treatment (root canal treatment). Surgical endodontic treatment (such as an apicoectomy) is the last therapeutic option and may sometimes follow conventional endodontic treatment, in teeth that are able to be restored.

Benign tumors can be located either in the soft tissue or bone of the jaws. Surgical removal is carried out after a detailed clinical and radiographic examination to prevent any malignancy. After removal, there is always a histological analysis by a specialized pathology laboratory with which we work, to confirm the diagnosis.

Frenum Excision

These are bundles of connective tissue found in the mouth and start from the tongue (lingual frenum), lips (labial frenum) or cheek (buccal frenum). In some cases, the frenum is either hypertrophic, so they impede mobility, or in a position that creates a problem with the teeth. Then an excision (partial or total) is needed and their readjustment, in order to eliminate the problems.
In this type of surgery, the use of a soft tissue LASER is a good alternative to the classical excision with a scalpel, in order for the surgery to be undertaken without bleeding and with minimal postoperative symptoms and fast healing.

For this reason, our clinic, wherever possible, performs such surgeries with the use of a soft tissue LASER. This surgery is quite common in children and the laser helps to have relatively painless surgery and as quick a recovery as possible. In adults, the excision of frenum can be part of a microsurgical intervention combined with other techniques (free gingival graft, connective tissue graft, vestibuloplasty, coverage of recession) in order to solve additional functional and aesthetic problems.
